RATIONALE 2

Personal learnings when doing a written test based on the principles studied in class and in the readings.

On this second assignment I had the chance to improve my test. However, I still missed some of the recommendations provided on the task before such as:

a. Use a positive approach when giving general test instructions and separate them from each other for a clear understanding.
b. Balance the skills and macro skills for a more weighted test. The test included a lot of listening exercises and it affects its reliability and washback.
c. Place pictures and items on the same page.
d. Accept flexible answers while coherent and grammatically correct.
e. Avoid including too much information in listening items, so students can get meaning from context.
f. Specify the amount of times audios would be played for each item. It would help students grasp the required information for solving the exercise.
g. Expose learners to authentic materials and real-life situation contexts.
h. Be concious that clear instructions helps test transparency.

Undoubtedly, the assessment experiences shared in the classroom, as well as the readings helped me clarify and refresh the required concepts for an efffective test designing process.
